Abstract

Objective: Chronic kidney disease is a common disease. Niaoduqing granules have been used in clinical treatment of chronic kidney disease for many years. This article was to do a meta-analysis to evaluate clinical efficacy and safety of Niaoduqing granules for treatment of adults with chronic renal failure (CRF).

Methods: Literature from 6 electronic medical databases(up to January 2019) were searched for meta-analysis using Revman 5.3. Two investigators independently extracted the data and evaluated the quality of included studies by using Cochrane Handbook 5. 1.

Results: A total of 14 studies involving 1289 participants were included. Niaoduqing granules treatment group was more effective than the control group in terms of clinical efficacy (P<0.00001, RR=1.47, 95% CI [1.29, 1.69]) and serum creatinine (P<0.00001, MD=-42.48, 95% CI [-55.96, -29.00]). However, there was no statistically significant difference in safety between Niaoduqing granules and control group.

Conclusions: The above results suggest that Niaoduqing granules have certain efficacy and safety as adjuvant treatment for CRF. However, due to the low quality of included literatures, this review can not provide high-quality evidence. More high-quality randomized and controlled trials were needed to provide evidence for verification.
