Abstract

The use of multi-ingredient supplements among professional athletes has been drastically increased in the last couple of years. Beside the reported positive effect on some performance parameters in different sports, mostly individual sports, the scientific evidence regarding the effect of multi-ingredient use among team sport athletes is still scarce. Furthermore, literature has highlighted safety issues when using multi-ingredient supplements, suggesting athletes to carefully check the content. Given the benefits of multi-ingredient supplement use, mostly studied in short-term and in individual sports, through this editorial we aim to urge the scientific community to study into more details the effect and the safety of multi-ingredient supplement use in team sport athletes, focusing also in the long-term consumption in different sports and age-groups.
