Abstract

Objective: The main purpose of the surgical procedure called rhinoplasty is to completely remove the deformity of the nose. It is very normal for it to be performed together with bone curvature (deviation) surgery, which has created an obstacle to breathing in the nose. Rhinoplasty, also known as nose reduction, is sometimes aimed at enlarging the nose. It aimed to evaluate the body image and self-esteem of the patients who underwent surgical intervention in the plastic and aesthetic surgery clinic before and after the operation.

Methods: Our research was descriptive and cross-sectional. Those who had surgery in Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine, Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery Clinic, were older than 18 years old, did not have any psychiatric problems, were planned for rhinoplasty surgery, were literate, had the ability to understand and answer the questions adequately, and voluntarily accepted to participate in the research. patients are included. “Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale” and “Body Image Satisfaction Scale” were used in our study. Chi-square test, correlation distribution bivarate analysis, frequency distribution, and t test were used statistically in data evaluation.

Result: Considering the findings of the study, it was observed that the self-esteem and body image scores of the people who had surgery because they did not like their aesthetic appearance were much higher than those who had surgery due to diseases. It has also been observed that self-esteem and body image differ according to the profession, education level, and gender of the person.

Conclusion: It has been revealed that patients who have undergone rhinoplasty in the plastic and aesthetic surgery clinic need comprehensive biopsychosocial nursing care.
