Abstract

Objectives: We aimed to reveal the fibromyalgia status of breast cancer patients after surgical treatment.

Methods: The data of 40 patients who underwent surgical procedures in the treatment of breast cancer between January 2022 and September 2022 and were subsequently diagnosed with fibromyalgia were analyzed retrospectively. “fibromyalgia questionnaire diagnostic criteria and symptom severity scale” were used to examine the status of patients diagnosed with fibromyalgia after surgical treatment.

Results: We found that the parameters of weakness, tiredness, pain/cramp in the lower abdomen, chest pain, back pain, waist pain, neck pain, and marriage status were statistically significant. We think that musculoskeletal pain involvement differs in the extremities, especially the body fat index, and accordingly, the fatigue symptom specific to energy loss are important criteria.

Conclusion: It has been observed that awareness of the disease, diagnosis, and ultimately the postoperative period in patients with breast-related problems can trigger fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) or similar psychological events in patients, and related signs and symptoms occur in patients.
