Abstract

MicroRNAs regulate a variety of target proteins and signaling pathways, which are involved in almost the entire life course of biological development, growth, disease, aging and death. A variety of miRNAs have been found to play specific protective roles in the occurrence and progression of ischemic stroke. Here, the neuroprotective roles of microRNAs in ischemic stroke are discussed including anti-apoptosis and autophagy, anti-inflammatory response, anti-oxidative stress, and reduction of post-stroke edema.

Keywords
