Objective: To explore the relationship between cystic hepatic hydatid cyst wall calcification, hydatid bile leakage, and calcifying nanoparticles in Northern Xinjiang, China.
Patients and methods: 37 patients with hepatic hydatid cyst who were diagnosed using CT in the outpatient clinic from January to December 2018,were hospitalized for surgical treatment. According to the presence of bile leakage, They were divided into the biliary leakage and non-biliary leakage groups.
Results: The difference between the two groups of the calcification of the outer cyst wall of hepatic hydatid was significantly related to the occurrence of bile leakage(χ2= 20.894, P <0.001). The results of immunohistochemistry showed that after the occurrence of bile leakage, the tendency of hepatic hydatid cyst wall calcification increased significantly. The expression levels of calcification-related proteins, such as OPN and BMP-2, on the cyst wall of the biliary leakage group were significantly higher than those of the non-biliary leakage group. The calcified nanoparticles on the outer wall of cystic hepatic hydatid were significantly related to the occurrence of bile leakage (χ2= 33.740, P <0.001).
Conclusions: Calcifying nanoparticles may lead to calcification of the outer cyst wall of hepatic hydatid cysts.
