Abstract

Introduction: To explore the moderating effect of psychological counseling on suicidal ideation of the elderly in the community. 

Materials and methods: Face to face interview was used to screen the elderly with suicidal ideation in the community. After two months of psychological counseling, the suicide ideation, mental health, quality of life and sleep quality of the participants were evaluated. 

Results: After psychological counseling, the scores of suicide and quality of life of the elderly with suicidal ideation were significantly higher than those before psychological counseling, and the scores of mental health and sleep quality were significantly lower than those before psychological counseling (P<0.05). 

Conclusion: Psychological counseling has a significant regulatory effect on the elderly with suicidal ideation in community, which is worthy of clinical promotion.
