Abstract

Objective: To investigate the relationship between the severity of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia and renal Impairment within 7 days of delivery.

Methods: A total of 157 neonates with hyperbilirubinemia within 7 days of delivery admitted to our hospital from January 2018 to June 2021 were included in this study retrospectively. According to the severity of disease, there were 55 cases in mild hyperbilirubinemia group, 53 cases in moderate hyperbilirubinemia group and 49 cases in severe hyperbilirubinemia group respectively. The clinical characteristics of three groups were compared, and the correlation between the severity of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia and renal function within 7 days of delivery was evaluated.

Results: There was no significant difference among three groups in terms of general data (P>0.05). The level of urinary NGAL in severe hyperbilirubinemia group was significantly higher than those in the other two groups (P<0.05). There was no significant difference among three groups in other laboratory indicators (P>0.05). The results of correlation analysis showed that the severity of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia within 7 days of delivery was positively correlated with the level of urinary NGAL (P<0.05). However, there was no correlation between the severity of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia within 7 days of delivery and other laboratory indicators (P>0.05).

Conclusion: The severity of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia within 7 days of delivery is associated with the level of urinary NGAL, and children with severe hyperbilirubinemia have more significant impairment in renal tubular reabsorption
