Abstract

Introduction: This study aimed to analyze the safety and effectiveness of balloon-expandable stents in interventional treatment of atherosclerotic intracranial artery stenosis.

Materials and methods: The 78 patients with atherosclerotic intracranial artery stenosis who were treated in the Department of Neurology of our hospital from June 2019 to June 2021 were selected as the research objects, and they were randomly divided into a control group and an observation group with 39 cases each. The patients in the control group was treated with self-expandable stents, while the patients in the observation group was treated with balloon-expandable stents. The success rate and complications, as well as some common indicators of interventional surgery and postoperative NIHSS scores of patients in the two groups were compared and analyzed.

Results: Compared with in the control group, there was no significant difference in the success rate of stent implantation and the incidence of complications in the observation group (P >0.05). However, the NIHSS scores of the two groups 3 months after operation were lower than those before operation, the NIHSS scores in the observation group was significantly lower than those in the control group, the differences were statistically significant (P <0.05). The inner diameters in the two groups 3 months after operation were smaller than those 3 days after operation , but the inner diameters in the observation group were larger than those in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). Stent restenosis rate and stroke recurrence rate in the observation group 3 months after operation were significantly lower than those in the control group (P <0.05).

Conclusion: Balloon-expandable stents have good short-term effectiveness in the treatment of atherosclerotic intracranial artery stenosis, and the operation is safe.
