Abstract

Objective: To explore the safety and feasibility of adjuvant treatment in patients with rectal cancer after operation by tonifying Qi and nourishing Yin prescription for reducing phlegm combined with XELOX chemotherapy.

Methods: By method of random number expression, sixty patients with postoperative Colorectal cancer who underwent XELOX (oxaliplatin + capecitabine) chemotherapy were randomly divided into treatment group (30 cases) and control group (30 cases). The chemotherapy regimen of XELOX (oxaliplatin + capecitabine) was used alone in the control group, and tonifying Qi and nourishing Yin prescription for reducing phlegm combined with XELOX chemotherapy regimen was used in the treatment group. The difference in clinical efficacy between tonifying Qi and nourishing Yin prescription for reducing phlegm combined with XELOX chemotherapy regimen and XELOX chemotherapy regimen after treatment of Colorectal cancer was evaluated by TCM syndrome evaluation criteria, tumor marker index level and toxicity side assessment criteria.

Results: The total effective rate of TCM syndrome improvement after treatment was significantly higher than that of the control group (86.66% vs 76.67% P<0.05). The tumor marker index level in the treatment group was lower than that in the control group, which had statistical significance. (P<0.05). In the comparison of toxicity side effects: the incidence difference between the two groups mainly occurred in nausea and vomiting, the treatment group was significantly lower than the control group (P<0.05); the incidence of diarrhea was similar, the treatment group was also lower than the control group.

Conclusion: Tonifying Qi and nourishing Yin prescription for reducing phlegm can improve the efficacy of TCM symptoms based on combined chemotherapy after Colorectal cancer surgery, selectively reduce the toxicity side effects of patients, and decrease the level of tumor marker CEA.
