Abstract

Objective: To study micturition behavior of junior female clinical nurses and its relationship to incidence of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS).

Methods: A questionnaire survey of 212 nurses with less than 5 years of clinical working experience at Military General Hos- pital, China was conducted using multi-department sampling method in January 2017. Descriptive data on micturition behavior and LUTS were obtained, and their relationship was determined through single factor linear regression and dimensional analysis.

Results: There were correlations between micturition behaviors and LUTS (r = 0.47, p < 0.0001). Micturition without sense of emiction was correlated with bladder storage period, symptoms in micturition period and symptoms of urinary incontinence (r = 0.25, p = 0.0003; r = 0.22, p = 0.0013; r = 0.23, p = 0.0007, respectively). In addition, urine retention was correlated with bladder storage period and symptoms in micturition period (r = 0.31, p < 0.0001; r = 0.39, p < 0.0001, respectively). Micturition with strain was correlated with bladder storage period and symptoms in micturition period (r = 0.31, p < 0.0001; r = 0.39, p < 0.0001, respectively).

Conclusion: These results indicate a correlation between unhealthy micturition behaviors amongst junior female clinical nurses and LUTS.
