Abstract

Introduction: The most critical problem in living donor liver transplantation is the complications that may develop in the donor. One of these complications is diaphragmatic hernia (DH) which can be fatal if not diagnosed and treated on time.

Material and method: Here, we present a case of a patient who had undergone donor hepatectomy two months before being dia- gnosed with acute abdomen and incarcerated hernia. Through emergency laparotomy, the patient was found to have small intestinal necrosis.

Results: To prevent this complication, the surgical instruments employed for performing dissection and hemostasis during hepatic resection must be used carefully.

Conclusion: Acquired DH should be surgically treated at the time of diagnosis itself even when it is asymptomatic. Keywords: Diaphragmatic hernia, right hepatectomy, donor complication, acute abdomen, small intestine.
